PingYao (平遥) is a county in ShanXi province, central China. PingYao is located approximately 700 kilometres (400 miles) southwest of Beijing and 80 kilometres (50 miles) from the provincial capital TaiYuan. PingYao is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a traditional Han Chinese city, founded in the 14th century. This ancient city, which is renowned for its well-preserved city walls and outlying temples, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Tang Dynasty Music and Dance Show has become a classic that has been running since 1982 and has also toured many countries. Xi'An, formerly known as Chang'An, was the imperial capital during 13 dynasties. Of these, the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907) was perhaps the most glorious of all. The Tang was open to outside influences, taking in the best of various art forms of not only past dynasties but also the ethnic groups in China as well as central and western Asia, including a wide range of unusual musical instruments and a variety of techniques in painting, sculpting, patterns, costume design, poetry, singing and dancing. The performances have their roots in folk arts, developing over thousands of years. The show presented today is a recreation of traditional entertainment based on much historical research. Staged with a visualization of the Tang imperial court as its setting, the production manifests a unique classical style with features typical of Xi'An.

A selection of songs from HuNan TV's 'I am a singer' by Gem Tang ... G.E.M. was born in Shanghai but grew up in Hong Kong from age 4. She is fluent in Mandarin (mainland China), Cantonese (Hong kong and GuangDong) and English. Here is the musical phenomenon, the incredibly wonderous Gem Tang; she always gives it all ... Falling (original by Alicia Keys) ... 'If I were a boy' 《挑战碧昂丝》 (original by Beyonce) ... Something goes wrong with the mike or mix just before 45 seconds (lower volume), which must be pretty off-putting, but still the emotion and performance win through, despite a few duff notes (an effort for mix error compensation I would think). These things happen in live shows, and generally HuNnan TV does really good output. Listen to song two for a better measure of voice talent (not to mention piano skills). The mix is a bit off in other ways too, but still, a great turn and a song with an important message, for boy or girl - don't let 'the one' slip away ... 存在 ... Beyond《喜欢你》 ... We will rock you / We are the champions (original by Queen) ... Imagine (original by John Lennon) ...

Posted in respect to Iraq born architect Zaha Hadid, who sadly died today (31st March 2016). Galaxy SOHO opened in November 2011 as an office, retail and entertainment complex. An excellent example of a unique perspective, this building, in north east Beijing, with characteristic natural forms and curves, with futuristic outlook, opened in 2014. Her talent and bold vision will be missed by everyone. Thank you Zaha for all you did to help make this world a better place ...
