It is perhaps the most essential of the seven items important to Chinese culinary life: firewood, rice, oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar, and tea. LiZiQi shows how salt is refined traditionally in SiChuan, an inland province of China : salt water is extracted from a well, concentrated by boiling in a big pot with firewood, purified by adding soybean milk to remove colored impurities (which float to the top and are skimmed off), and further concentrated to give salt crystals. She then used the salt to prepare/cook a variety of food, including PiDan (a kind of preserved duck egg with a very unique flavor), hand-beaten beef ball (so elastic that it could bounce like a Ping-Pong ball), potato, stewed beef, and more ... A fascinating look at the extraordinary history and transformation of ShangHai. With China Central TV (CCTV). Narrated by Owen Grant. Bonus film - sailing along the HuangPu River at night, between the Bund in PuXi (west of the river) and PuDong (east of the river). The most well known area of PuDong is the LuJiaZui finance and trade zone that includes the ShangHai Stock Exchange and many of ShangHai's highest buildings, such as the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Jin Mao Tower, the ShangHai World Financial Center, and the ShangHai Tower. These modern skyscrapers directly face PuXi's historic Bund (meaning embankment), a remnant of former foreign concessions. PuDong also includes the Port of ShangHai, the ShangHai World Expo site and Century Park, ShangHai PuDong International Airport, the JiuDuanSha Wetland Nature Reserve, and the ShangHai Disney Resort. This 'New Area' has been established from almost nothing in just thirty years.

SuZhou, an exquisite water town, lies on the banks of the YangTse river and next to TaiHu lake. SuZhou is 45 minutes from Shanghai by train. This film includes the classical gardens and the SuZhou Art Museum.
